On the Road

roadwellshortonThanks once again to Wells Horton for another lovely photograph.                        http://wells-horton.smugmug.com/

“The Road,” as Bilbo Baggins often remarked, “goes on and on, down from the door where it began.”  In the words of J.R. R. Tolkien:

“He used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river: its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary. ‘It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door,’ he used to say. ‘You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

I’ll be taking a vacation from posting on this blog (but not from writing blog posts) for two weeks. I’m heading off on the road with my son Tim to visit my older son Alex, who works in India. We’re meeting in Sri Lanka.

I’ll explore the unmowed corners of Sri Lanka, and try not to waste all my time lolling on sun-drenched beaches. (Sorry).  I’ll be back in the second week in March.
